Introducing; Lyonsleaf Natural Skincare

Lyonsleaf

Started from their small farm in Somerset, Lyonsleaf skincare is a 100% natural skincare brand that started as just a personal experiment with their own home-grown ingredients.  Before long however creators Vicky and Ben discovered that their own products were actually far superior in helping skin problems such as psoriasis and eczema so they started selling their own products at farmers markets. The creams proved an instant hit with customers raving about effects of the creams ( the calendula in particular for sensitive skins) and the range has gone from strength to strength. In 2014 they won two awards in the Free-From skin care awards and have continued to receive rave reviews from their very regular customers.  I will talk more about their Calendula cream which they are best known for, in another post as Ally is currently in the process of giving it a proper go.

But seeing as I have a lot of friends and readers who are always looking to learn more about natural and cruelty-free options for their skin, I wanted to give you my experiences of using the Lyonsleaf Natural Beauty Balm and Natural Body Butter.

Ben and Vicky Lyons, Founders of Lyonsleaf

The Beauty Balm is described as a complete facial skin care system that is perfect for cleansing, exfoliating, moisturising and nourishing the skin. Completely fragrance, artificial chemical and paraben free  means this little pot is suitable for even the most sensitive skin. It is a water free formula with rich yet light oils that have been chosen to be easily absorbed into the epidermis. The oils the team use are cold pressed and unrefined to ensure they maximise their beneficial compounds that are bursting with a whole host of vitamins and antioxidants.

The balm is really gorgeous to use and you really only need a tiny amount so the pot will go a long, long way. It works to repair the skin's barrier function which helps hydrate the skin by restoring its ability to seal in moisture. Drier skin occurs when this barrier fails and moisture escapes from the cracks, this eventually leads to the dermis drying out and premature wrinkling occurring- definitely not what I am needing! This clever balm helps fight this as the oils contain the same fatty acids that your skin will accept and use that to repair its natural barrier.

To use it is very much a cleansing balm that delivers that oil cleansing experience meaning it is a using a 'like dissolving like' approach. The Natural oils when spread on the skin easily dissolves my make up, dreaded sebum and even my waterproof mascara. I only use a tiny amount that once massaged on my face, I add water to it and use a face cloth to make sure I gently remove all the balm and my skin is left feeling wonderfully soft, clean and balanced. After learning about using the right oils on my already oily skin,  I have never looked back and this a beautiful addition to my balm line-up.

The Natural Body Butter is loaded with organic shea butter, avocado and coconut and a blend of essential oils including Lyonsleaf's homegrown calendula extract which promotes collagen, elastin and hyaluronic cell regeneration which helps speed up the healing of minor inflammations. Not only does it smell great, absorb quickly and clearly will last ages, this was a lifesaver for me when my skin was particularly dry and flaky following a skin peel. I can tell it is going to be my hero product now winter is here and my skin usually really struggles for moisture.

I have been so impressed with the Lyonsleaf products I have tried, and also the huge wealth of information they have taken the time to put together on the website. The Knowledge is Power section of the site has articles that are well worth going through, covering everything from Free Radicals to the oil cleansing method. You can even read more info on each individual ingredient too! The products are all priced incredibly reasonably considering the quality of natural and home grown ingredients used, Ally has been giving the Calendula cream a good testing for his broken eczema skin so I will be back with a full report on that, but from what I have seen so far- it is working well.

You can try all the products in a small sample size which is a lovely touch Lyonsleaf are offering, their customer service is wonderful too so if you have any questions it is well worth getting in touch with them on info@lyonsleaf.co.uk
