Top Tip Tuesday

The Avocado!

This versatile fruit is rich in anti-aging vitamins, minerals and oils. Ancient Aztec, Mayan and Inca Beauties believed that the avocado fed the skin from without as well as within. What they found by trial-and-error, Is that the elegant green-gold avocado is a treasury of vitamins, minerals and natural oils packed with vitamins A, C, E, iron, potassium, Niacin, protein and other natural emollients. What more do I need to take this out of my guacamole and onto my face! A wonderful beauty aid, rich in beneficial oils that rejuvenate the skin, reduce eye puffiness, heal frazzled hair, and much, much more, it seems it is known as “green gold” for some very good reasons!

Avocados are perishable, so be sure to use these formulas as soon as you make them. When buying avocados, look for organically-grown firm fruit with a slight “give” to the flesh. To use, cut the avocado in half lengthwise and remove the pit. Cover the unused half with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Here are some of the best uses I have found so far for todays tips:

Rejuvenating face mask:

Simply mash an avocado with a fork, add a little oatmeal to create a thicker consistency, and apply to your face. Leave for 15-20 minutes, wash off with warm water and your face should feel toned and moisturised. This can be done without oatmeal if you have none.

Avocado Facial Cleanser:

Beat the yolk of an egg until it is light and frothy, add a half cup of milk and the mashed half of a ripe peeled avocado. A blender is handy here, but if you don't have one, beat the mixture with a fork until you have a thin cream or lotion-like consistency. Apply on squares of cotton as you would any other cleanser. You may also use this deep cleanser after ordinary soap and water, if your skin is normal. It's quite effective against pollution and grime.

California Avocado Moisturizer:

The inside of the avocado peel is actually valuable. The precious oil hidden away in the peel of the avocado is also a wonderful facial moisturizer. The oil contains a humectant, a substance that holds moisture. Using gentle upward strokes, lightly massage your face with the inside of the peel. Let the oil residue remain on your skin for about 15 minutes. At that time you may either leave the oil on your skin and go to sleep or, if you intend to put on make-up, wash your face gently with three or four rinses of tepid water and pat dry. The oil will be invisible but it is there, ready to hold your foundation or powder in place for hours.
Aztec Mystery Eye Treatment Or Aztec Miracle for Puffy Eyes:
Nobody really knows why this is so effective on under-eye puffiness, but it from what I read it definitely does! The procedure is very simple: peel an avocado, remove the pit, and slice a half into quarter-inch crescents. Lie down, secure a few slices under each eye, and rest for about 20 minutes. Magic ensues J

Shiny Soft Hair Treatment:

In a small bowl, mash and combine:1 avocado (1/2 for shorter hair)1 egg yolk1/2 teaspoon olive oil
Apply to hair and allow to remain 30 minutes or longer, then shampoo and condition as usual. Amazingly silky, shiny, soft hair!

Soft, Smooth Hand Trick:

This gently exfoliating scrub will make your hands noticeably softer and smoother.
In a small bowl, mash:1/4 of a peeled avocado1 egg white2 tablespoons oatmeal1 teaspoon lemon juice
Combine well and apply to your hands. Leave the mixture on for 20 minutes, then rinse in warm water and pat dry.

Oily-Skin Masque:

In a small bowl, thoroughly mash and combine:1/2 avocado1 teaspoon lemon juice1 egg white
Apply evenly to a clean face and allow to remain 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water and a cloth.
